Marcelle Benedict: Stripes and Pins Runway Show!

We are too often inclined to just go to the closest mall and buy clothing in any ordinary retail store… and we buy clothing that half of the population owns..  What we really need to realize is their is a large amount of VERY talented clothing designers in our city, who also offer affordable prices and badass/unique designs, and for some, even custom made!  Now what more could you ask for?

Shop Local, Support Local!

STRIPES & PINS charity Fashion Show!

May 10th at 7h30pm
Saint-Brigid’s Center for the Arts

I had the pleasure, with my assistant Brianne Lacasse, to work with some great local talents at the Marcelle Benedict Stripes and Pins Runway Show.  I worked along side 4 other Makeup Artists from the region of which included Rosalind Chen and Krista Gregory. We were focused on re-creating a 1920’s vibe, bringing the prohibition era back through the makeup the models would strut that runway in.  Im seriously in love with my line of work. Check out the backstage photo coverage here.

The local rising stars Andréanne Jobin and Sterowashout offered live music for the evening and the guests were treated with a dance performance by Extravadanse and free snacks from Wontonmama. The event was also equiped with a fun photobooth brought to you by Shutterbug!

The designers present were; Boutique L’HexagoneAria Frances and of course Marcelle Benedicte as headliner.  Also presenting his graphic clothing designs was Babes & Gents.  See their work on the runway by checking out Moose Photography‘s event coverage here!

We all had such a great time, the stress levels were kept at a minimum, the people involved were very pleasant to work with. It was seriously such an amazing event, very well organized.  Big high five to the organizing team!

For red carpet pictures click here.

All proceeds of the event are going to Solidarité Jeunesse

Looking forward to next years event!
Ciao for now,
– Mimii

Pretty Hurts

People neeeeeed to stop complaining about this “no makeup selfie” nominations! I believe its a beautiful idea.. I’m a makeup artist so I definitely am all about makeup but I believe it’s really important to put out the awareness that we are beautiful no matter what! Makeup or no makeup , with all the media going around with perfect figures, perfect skin, perfect faces, all digitally modified. This no makeup selfie is JUST what our souls need.

On top of everything it is made to raise awareness for cancer, like what is the problem with our society? I have no words to explain how disappointed it makes me to know that this is how we are being raised. We need to stop the nonsense and start loving each other and ourselves, the world will truly be a better place!

nomakeup-selfie-viral-trend

I swear people are just looking for things to complain about, lets complain about this that matter, like lack of self-esteem in our communities, animal abuse or world poverty, or even the lack of information going around about the missing plane.. But their is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the nominations going on with the “no makeup!” … Nek nominations were another story… Wake-up and smell the coffee!

“Pretty hurts
We shine the light on whatever’s worse
Perfection is the disease of a nation”
– Queen Bey

Nude Face Nomination

I’d like to thank Stephanie Quesnel for the beautiful no makeup selfie Nomination! I’ve recently became extremely comfortable with the look of my skin that is finally healing! This nomination chain is a great idea to display true beauty and encourage self-confidence in younger (and older) women.

I’d like to nominate all of you reading this now, and please ensure to nominate your  friends along the way! This is a great cause! Spread the word, spread the love…

Let me see them nude faces ladies (and gentlemen? hehe). !!1901389_10153983325000595_13102266_n

True Beauty

Spring comes once again.
The sun shines warmly. Everything is fresh and green. One morning the ugly duckling sees the beautiful swans again. She knows them. She wants so much to swim with them in the river. But she is afraid of them. She wants to die. So she runs into the river. She looks into the water. There in the water she sees a beautiful swan. It is she! She is no more an ugly duckling.
She is a beautiful white swan.

Bare English & Co. Tea Infused Lip Balm Review

Blog Collaboration;  Guest Blogger for Vegan Bananas

Bare English & Co. : Organic . Vegan . Tea Infused . Lip Balm

2014-01-16 14.45.51

Lip products and winter go together like peanut butter and jelly. Finding a suitable lip balm is a harder task than it may initially seem. Needing the right scent, flavor, packaging, etc … but the right texture is one of its most important and searched for components of a lip balm. Achieving a smooth “non-sticky” application can be pretty tricky for producers of such products, especially without using any animal products or harmful chemicals (petroleum jelly, parabens, etc.) Since the average woman consumes two kilograms (yep, kilos my friends) of lip products in her lifetime, it’s important to avoid nasty dangerous chemicals. [Source: Terra20] Like most women, I have a huge stash of lip products. They are hidden in every coat, every purse, hidden in drawers and pant pockets all around me. Also, vegans are always on the hunt for really good vegan lip balms since they are sometimes hard to find. This is why I was so excited to have won a pack of three Bare English Lip Balms from Andrea Tomkins’ blog, A Peek Inside The Fishbowl. I put them to the test, January being one of the best times to do this, in full Canadian winter. FYI, for this blog I am welcoming a guest writer! If you are already part of my social media circle, you probably already have guessed that this guest blogger is none other than my cousin Myriam from BeauteOptic. I’m not a fan of mint chocolate flavors, so I needed help from my dear sidekick. Plus, she’s just awesome of course, there’s genetics at play here! Now down to business..

Features:

2014-01-16 14.47.36

Canadian:

They are from Toronto, Ontario! (Also sold here in Ottawa, at Terra20) Bare English & Co. Pomegranate Berry Lip Balm Bare English & Co. Mint Chocolate Lip Balm Bare English & Co. Vanilla Coconut Lip Balm

Tea Infused:

The lip balms are made with awesome ingredients, and they are infused with tea.

“It’s not just a beverage; it’s our claim to fame!” – Bare English & Co.

Organic Ingredients:

Bare English & Co. lip balms are organic, fair trade and free of GMO’s! They also don’t contain preservatives or toxic chemicals.

– Candelilla Wax; creating the texture
– Jojoba Oil; moisturizing, almost mimicking the skin’s natural sebum.
– Almond Oil; antioxidant, anti-aging and helps balance the pH of the skin.
– Cocoa Butter; strong moisturizer and barrier to our harsh environments and climates.
– Vitamin E; healing antioxidant.
– Coconut Oil; rejuvenating moisture for all skin types.
– Olive Oil; enriches the skin and gives a natural shine.
– Castor Oil; emollient that stimulates the productions of collagen and elastin.

Vegan:

Bare English & Co. Tea Infused Lip Balms contain no animal products. (NONE. Yesssssss!)

Texture notes:

Josée:

Good lip balms are hard to come by, but these … Everything I could possibly want. The texture is SPOT ON; not too waxy, not too wet. Moisture that lasts for hours, even after talking to customers all day at work. And yes, it really has been a hero for my lips in this cold weather.

Myriam:

The texture of these balms can best be explained in juicy adjectives, such as smooth and kissable.  They do not leave that obnoxious film of sticky gooeyness to your lips (this is thanks to the candelilla wax which substitutes the beeswax).  If anything its more of a silky, almost liquid (not runny) texture. Even my boyfriend wears it because he can stand the feel of it on his lips, and trust me he has refused kisses of mine after wearing certain other lip balms. This being said, I would even consider this to be a unisex product.

Flavour notes:

Josée:

Vanilla Coconut

Deliciously sweet, but a very heavy dessert-like flavor. I want to eat it… Calories from lip balms don’t count, right?

Pomegranate Berry

My personal favorite! Not too sweet, not too sour. Seems like a real fruit flavor, not the plastic/fake berry flavorings.

Myriam:

Mint chocolate

In all honesty, I love a good mint chocolate flavoring (brings me back to my girl guide cookie days).  I absolutely enjoyed the flavor. Bonus: My boyfriend always makes the comment that my lips taste good after he greets me with a kiss. This flavor gets a BeauteOptic check mark of approval.

*Looks like the lip balms were a hit with both of us beauty critics! Make sure you check out their website at www.bareenglish.com, to check where you can find some for yourself.

terra20: Opening of a new store!

1454887_10153431421140297_1846425389_n

I have officially fallen in love..

No more adventuring all the way to Kanata with my roomie and dragging her into terra20 just so I could day dream about being able to use the ecobar, or to look at the ‘oh so pretty’ cosmetic section…it was always just out of reach for me.  I cannot explain the excitement I felt when I began hearing rumours about a potential new store at their anniversary event back in September. Now here it is, terra20 in Wellington West!

On Friday November 1st, they had an exclusive VIP shopping event..how exciting that I was actually invited! Let me tell ya, I was one happy camper walking into this store.  Not only was my cousin, Josée aka ‘Vegan Bananas‘, there to greet me at the entrance, she also greeted me as the newest member of the terra20 team!  As I walked into the store, I was overwhelmed at the contemporary beauty they had created.

For those of you who are reading this thinking; ‘What the heck is terra20?’ Tisk Tisk!

Heres what Terra20 is all about in a snap:

About terra20:
A pioneer in green department store retailing, terra20 works closely with brand partners and guests to find the most environmentally sound products available. terra20’s first two stores and head office are in Ottawa. The company plans to open additional stores across Canada in the near future and has an online store with more than 8,500 product offerings. For more information visit http://www.terra20.com.

So now to talk about my experience in… *pause for effect*  ‘THE COSMETIC SECTION’!

photo-2

First, let’s start off with their prestige brand, ‘Daniel Thompson‘. I actually had the privilege of meeting Mr.Thompson himself, and his trusty sidekick at the Anniversary event. We got to talk about the products and his view for the future of his company.  Great guys with great ambitions!  If there was one product I had really enjoyed during my mini makeover at the event, it was the Absolute Light (I will eventually post a review on the product and link it here as well).

The awesomeness doesn’t stop there! I got to snag myself samples of Kaia face and eye cream, booster serum, and a facial cleansing cloth. Kaia, a brand suited for people like me with busy lifestyles, is eco-friendly and vegan! I cannot wait to try these out and discover more about the product line!

There is more…lots more!

Next up, we have Zorah, a high-end brand that is petroleum free!  What really strikes me about this brand is their precious oils, especially their usage of argan oil. As we all know, argan oil is becoming a major hit in the mainstream world, or so says Dr. Oz (yea, I sometimes watch the show…it happens). Argan oil acts as a superb renewal agent for not only the skin, but in its purest form, also is amazing for the hair and cuticles.

However, the line that first caught my eye as I walked into the store, (I’d say mostly for the artwork on their brochures and stuff…I’m a very visual person) is Sappho Organic Cosmetics!  Seriously, click the hyperlink and check out the art work!  I actually posted the brochure on the wall in my room : ). I believe this will be the cosmetic line I will be testing and reviewing first! Oh Joséeeeee….prepare your makeup brushes cause i’m coming in for a makeover!

LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST!  *drum roll* …  PURPLE URCHIN!
Now this is something to be excited about!  Local vendors, and I for sure am one to ‘Support Local‘!SupportLocal-newmark

Their soaps are to die for! I know for a fact that I’m not the only one who thinks this.
* Check out Vegan Bananas’s review on their Lemon Meringue Hand Balm and Chocolate Face Mask.

Now, I could sit here all night and name every other product line they have available, thankfully I can just link you to a full list, for you to do a little of your own exploring : ).   HERE!
* Please note, the mother store carries all lines, the Wellington West location is more of a specialized department store.

PS: Don’t forget to check out poo-poo paper! ACTUALLY MADE FROM POOP! Yes, you read correctly…did I catch your attention? ; ) …I know I’m going to buy some poop during my next visit! hehe.

In short, I’m in love with this store, and will be turning visits into habits . I mean, I definitely have to refill my ecobar cleaning products!

Until we meet again, mon chéri,

xx; Mimii

MUST HAVES: New Lise Watier Launches

Lise Watier Cosmétiques has recently launched a few new products, and I thought they deserved 100% that I do a review on them!  Great new products! Probably my favourite new products as well.

Thought i’d start with the new shadows, only because they are officially my new favourite product!

Lise Watier Ombre Souffle Supreme – 24$
(Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean-Coutu, Sears, The Bay)

ImageI’ve recently got these colours added to my collection, and let me tell you I was EXTREMELY skeptic to use them because they are kind of like a cream shadow.  First thing I thought was “OMG this is going to crease”.  Well let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised!

I of course took the liberty to test it out on my own eyes. All day I found myself checking myself out in every mirror in sight making sure it hasn’t creased yet.

Everytime, I was very surprised to see that it was still put and hasn’t moved. I also found it makes a PERFECT base for eyeshadows to ensure your shadows don’t crease as well and is very blendable.

These come in 6 beautiful iridescent shades: Ciel de Nuit, Vert Enchante, Sunrise Peach, Magie Blanche, Magie Noire and Taupe Fantasia. They have an amazing air-whipped texture, kind of like a soufflé AND on top of all of this, these are your first anti-aging eye shadows!  They all have the Lise Watier famous Labrador tea extract, which is very anti-oxidant and is also considered the highest antioxidant on the market presently.

UP NEXT:

Lise Watier Extra Smooth Liner – 20$
(Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean-Coutu, Sears, The Bay)

ImageThese eyeliners…WOW. WOW. WOW.  Amazing texture, Amazing Hold (waterproof). Give you about 30-60 seconds to smudge for a smokey look and truly makes a great look. 3 colours so far, Bleu, Vert and Noir. The black one is actually more black then my regular liquid liner so I am now using it more then my liquid. *blushes* Its my new best kept secret.

I definitely recommend that you guys all give it a try!

It literally just glides on and the liner itself is dressed with a smudge tip to help create different looks. Highly pigmented it makes the perfect liner for a nice precise or smokey line.

** Warning; It is a mechanical eye liner, no sharpener needed BUT you can not twist it back down. so only roll up what you need!.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST:

Lise Watier Dramatique Intense 3D Volume Mascara – 24$
(Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean-Coutu, Sears, The Bay)

Image

This mascara offers you, volume and extreme length all while curling your lashes.  It has a nice creamy easy to apply formula in a beautiful ultra-black pigment and also includes ceramides. The brush, which is of a drop shape provides the perfect application for shorter lashes aswell as longer lashes, for a proffesional looking set of lashes.

I’m actually so in love with this mascara, it has now become my favourite of the cosmetic line.  It used to be the WOW mascara by Lise Watier, but this one knocked it outta the ball park for sure.

And the BEST part of it all is these products are regular products, they will stay on the shelves and not disappear like the seasonal products do.  No worries!

TAG: The Procrastinating Beauty Blogger

Rules:
1. Copy and paste these ‘rules’ into your post when you write it!
2. You must state that this tag was created by Laura from The Beau Bow.
3. You must thank the person who tagged you at the start of your post, follow them if you’re feeling nice and at the end of your post state who you tag, and comment on their blog  to let them know you tagged them.
4. Title this post ‘The Procrastinating Beauty Blogger TAG’ .
5. Have fun! 🙂

NOTE: I wasn’t tagged by anyone but thought this would be fun to do!

1. Name a beauty regime that you rarely do
The one thing I rarely or even never do, and I keep telling myself I will do is after a shower, to apply my body lotions.  I have SO many body lotions that are just waiting to be used.. *sigh*

Lise Watier Brush Cleaner

2. Is washing your makeup brushes something you do regularly?
Washing your brushes is SO important, that is one thing I dont EVER neglect.  As a makeup artist my brushes touch many faces. I become crazy when it comes to cleaning my brushes, they needs to be well done, and often shampoo.  My favorite brush cleanser is:  Lise Watier Brush Cleaner – review

3. How long will you last with chipped nails?
I could last maybe 3 days.. But once they chip I will start picking at my nails, this is a habit I just recently got out of and I’m not willing to start again.

4. How long do you put off buying/replacing a beauty or nail polish product even if you need it?
Depends, nail products? the only thing I buy again is the remover, I never buy a nail color again, I’m always following colour trends.  Skin care, I feel I always wait till the last minute, and every time I forget.

5. What is your worst beauty habit?
I’m MUCH better now but I had gotten into the bad habit of not cleaning my face before bed. THANK YOU for the new Micelaire water trend! No more excuse for being lazy!

6. Name something non-beauty related that you put off doing all the time
HOMEWORK, school projects.. I always feel something else is MUCH more important to do this the last minute..

7. When going out somewhere, do you leave getting ready until the last minute or not?
Getting ready is my favorite part of going out! I love to dress up get dolled up and make an impact!  “smokey eye” is considered a lazy makeup for me when I go out.

8. Can you commit to spending bans?
You know what… maybe someday I will try it!

9. How organized is your makeup and nail polish collection?
I have a nice little set up for my nail products in my living room because of all my girl nights, it is much easier access and my friends love it.  For my makeup I need to do a cleaning every month, it gets unorganized so quickly!

10. What is the longest amount of time you have gone without writing a blog post?
Still new to all this so ask me again in a while!

A Witch named Hazel’s magical Tea Tree

20130321-215009.jpg

So yes I am aware, most people out there say these mask packets aren’t good for the skin, their cheap.. Blah blah. Lets be honest, every product out there has their good and bad reviews. If someone can find me a product that no one has ever complained about….. Lets just stop there, that alone is wishful thinking. So I’ve decided to try it anyway, because I’ve always heard such great things about Witch Hazel and Tea Tree aswell and their multiple benefits.

A little bit about my skin type:
– Acne Prone with pimples
– Combination
– Scaring
– Sometimes even very dry..

So you can just imagine how complicated it is for me to find the right skin care! I have been on the lookout forever, I have tried everything. So I’ve decided to just result to taking care of it and living with what I have as part of me. & trying this thing called “healthy eating” haha I know right.. I must be crazy! Haha, its really not that bad, I feel great! Now lets see if it works to better my skin!

20130321-215107.jpgSo I have now been wearing the mask for 10 minutes, 5 minutes left before removal. I’m feeling no burning, no tingling. So far i’m “smooth riding”. Just very relaxed, and you know, I dont hate the smell of Tea Tree at all.

Rinsing time!

My skin feels great! It feels very clean, pores feel and appear tightened. Very happy with my experience! Great quick go to before an outting!
